The wonder of Google Map

So I found this really really useful feature of Google, the map. Basically you can find any place in the world by just click search. The result will show you some places matching to the search. It can be a street name, an apartment name, an office name, a park name and anything that you can think of.

You can zoom in and out depends on how details you want to read the map. You can zoom in up to the very details, the small street, restaurant around the corner, the small lanes... etc.

And if you need help on direction, you can choose the directions option in the box panel and key in the direction from one place to another place. The direction can be for walking, by car or by public transport. Not only you can see the directions highligted in the map, there are also details direction by step for your easier reference and information such as the distance in km, time required and even alternative route if you don't like the option given.

And if that is not good enough you can double click on the balloon and choose more. A drop down panel will appear and some of the places do have street view where you can actually "see" the place by yourself. You can also choose to see some near by places. Unfortunately this features only available on limited places.

Really impressive.

Telling it As it Is

Former Singaporean beauty queen Ris Low does not mind marrying an ugly man as long as he is rich because he can then opt for plastic surgery, reported China Press.

She was among women featured in an online television survey which showed that Singaporean women preferred men with money over looks.

“Even if he doesn’t, I still don’t mind. As long as he is rich, it means I’ll be leading a better lifestyle.

“He can buy anything for me and I no longer have to worry about money. This is how realistic life can be,” she said.

Can't argue with that. Definitely not in her case. Some may call it cynical, she calls it realistic.

the Caruso of Rock

The past week or so has seen me digging out the archives for my Roy Orbinson CD. What a voice he had ! It was totally extraordinary.

Curiously, my favourite Roy Orbinson song is not one of his most famous hits. Instead, it is a reworked version of "In Dreams" which was used by David Lynch in his movie "Blue Velvet".

There's this other guy, J.D. Souther, who tried to emulate Roy Orbinson's sound. Judging by his biggest hit "You're Only Lonely", he did a pretty good job.

On a side note, J.D. Souther also co-wrote some of the Eagles hits including "Best of My Love" and "New Kid in Town".

Before the sun rises

Having been press ganged into organizing a trip for the company's sports club to climb Mount Kinabalu, I now find myself hauling myself out of bed once a week to trek up a hill. Being more partial to futsal and badminton which I can play at a later hour in the day, such treks are not particularly enjoyable.

Still, the job dictates. The upside is that I'm hoping to get some decent photos on the treks. First installment :

Kiss of GArY

Frankly speaking I never like the name "Gary", it just sounds to gay-ly for me. This kiss of Gary on Paul Scholes is just priceless. Don't they look like lovely couple when the priest says "you may kiss your wife now"..... :-)

Off the Cuff

We had just finished breakfast on Saturday at House of Tangs, Bangsar on account of having some promotional material and were on our way off when things suddenly turned into an impromptu photo shoot session.

Hopefully the photographer will get around to passing us the photos sometime soon.

Darren Fletcher, who?

Tribute to one of the most underrated player who carry United's season at midfield.

Retake

One of the fun things for us is to retake similar photos of Catriona when she was young as compare to now. You can really see that she has grown over the period of time. Is like the size XS of Catriona to size S.

Photo taken on April 2008.

the power of facebook

You know Facebook is powerful when you see this sort of message posting on it. Employer is using FB to check on candidate nowadays, friends are reconnected through it and believe me families too. You must be from ulu place if you haven't heard of FB or didn't have an account. I think FB account is more common than bank account these days. So, are you addicted to Facebook?

Not sure? Check the clues,

You know you're a Facebook addict when ...

1. You lose sleep over Facebook

"If you're staying up late at night because you're on Facebook, and you're tired the next day, Facebook may be a compulsion for you," Lipari said. "You shouldn't be neglecting yourself because of Facebook."

2. You spend more than an hour a day on Facebook

Pile says it's hard to pinpoint exactly how much is too much time to be spending on social networking.

"I can't imagine that anyone would need more than an hour a day on Facebook, and probably no one needs more than 30 minutes," she said.

3. You become obsessed with old loves

Reconnecting with old friends is one of the great attractions of Facebook, and there's nothing necessarily wrong with "friending" an old boyfriend or girlfriend. But Pile warns that it can get out of hand very quickly.

"One of my clients met up with an old boyfriend on Facebook. They started spending hours and hours into the night talking to each other on Facebook. She made some really inappropriate comments about how unhappy she was in her marriage," Pile said. "Her cousin saw the comments and told her parents, and the parents told the husband, and now they're in the process of getting divorced."

4. You ignore work in favor of Facebook

"If you're not doing your job in order to sneak time on Facebook, you could have a real problem," Lipari said.

5. The thought of getting off Facebook leaves you in a cold sweat

Time for detox....

the Little Pea

I've pretty much written this season off for Man Utd.

There's been some good spots :

* Rooney
* Valencia
* Nani finally realizing that it's OK to pass the ball
* Fletcher & Park doing what they do. Not necessarily glamorous work, but effective. And in Park's case, when used in the right role.
* Evra, the rubber man who never seems to get injured
* Giggs' early season form
* Van Der Sar not showing his age
* did I mention Rooney ? He ain't Messi or Ronaldo but 34 goals speak loudly.

And the bad ?

* The squad is totally inadequate. Against Bolton, in a game they needed to win, SAF didn't have a single striker on the substitute's bench !
* Injuries to defenders were as prevalent as wet tissues at a screening of 'Titanic'
* Scholes showing his age. It's been a long time coming but I don't think that SAF can have missed this.
* Carrick still hasn't recovered from that final against Barcelona
* Ben Forster hasn't really cut it, has he ?
* Owen's injured. Not really a surprise here.
* Berbatov. Berbatov. Berbatov. All the skill in the world but ...
* The impetuosity of Rafael. Exciting player but loses his head often enough for it to be a flaw. A fatal one in the match against Bayern Munich. Do you think opposing teams will not target him in the next season ?
* Obertan and that Diouf guy. Are we talking a 3 year learning curve a la CR7 and Nani ?
* Anderson lost his way before he lost his knee to an ACL injury
* The whole business with the Red Knights was an unnecessary distraction. Despite all the noise they made and publicity they got, their valuation of Man Utd was unrealistic and the Glazers had rejected better offers than the Red Knights were prepared to offer.

So while the season seems to be petering out, SAF has been acquiring young, 'cheap' players. Some of them work spectacularly (CR7) and some don't pan out (who ?)

But here's the latest.

Javier Hernandez, 'the little pea' :
"Suddenly I’m going to be playing with the players I know from PlayStation
and television. I’m living in a dream. I thank God that I am living it.”

Oops! .... i did it again

The millions dollar question, can he or will he do it again? Is he still have the desires, courages, will power to do it all over again? Is the situation at Old Trafford allows him to continue?

The season which promised so much has comes tumbling down in the space of fortnight. More questions arise; the disappointment of Berbetov, the injury of Rooney, the loyalty of Vidic, the fading of Carrick, the lack of stickers...... Look like he needs to build a whole new squad. Can he bounce back?

The stubbornness of Scots need to prevail more than ever.

how much we miss CR7

Picture this, it is the last game of the season the title is in balance until 93rd minute, Man United is awarded a penalty. The win will give them the 19th league champion title, who will you picture to step up and take the penalty?

Somebody said, Berbetov should be chained to his own goal to prevent him from taking the kick. Rooney? May be if he is fit to play. Other than that.................... :-(

That's just how much Man United has misses the super duper confidence guy -- Christiano Ronaldo, CR7.

i want to eat...

Don't Talk Shit !

In my work, I deal with Malays more than I deal with non-Malays. It's never really been a big deal to me. Any issues or opinions I have of my co-workers have to do with them personally and is not affected at all by their race. In fact, the best subordinate I've had in this company is a Malay.

So, it feels really gratifying when my favourite Malay - Ibrahim Ali of Perkasa - declares that the Malays have sacrificed a lot of their interests to 'these people'.

Sometimes, you can't laugh for crying .....

renew passport at Jabatan Immigration Shah Alam PKNS updated

If you are looking for some advices and info before decided to renew passport at Jabatan Immigration during weekend (yes, this branch open Sat and Sun 8am-1pm). You may need to go back second day to collect your passport (for payment made after 11 a.m.).

There is no more KIOSK since the photo will be taken from the counter.

For normal counter service
- queue up at the counter 11/12 for the officer to check your dossier before getting a calling number (that will take more or less 40 mins if you are not lucky, if you want to avoid waiting for too long arrived before 7.15am)
**when you are queuing the guard will pass you the application form

- once your number is called, submit the dossier at the counter 7,8,9 or 10
- than wait for your name to be called and pay the money at counter no.6 payment by cash, credit card or debit card are accepted.

So you may ask me what is counter no 1-5 for?
Well, counter 1-2 are for collecting of passport. There is a basket in front of the counter, drop in the receipt and wait for your name to be called.
Counter 3 is special counter to serve senior citizen and disabled.
Counter 4 is the counter for those applicant with special condition for example lost passport. I only see 2 people went to that counter.

The office actually is located at 2nd floor of Wisma PKNS (which is opposite SIRIM berhad and Shah Alam Convention Center). Look for the entrance with KFC and Guardian (which is opposite a small park with lake), search for Lift 5/6 than go to 2nd floor. The office is on the left side.

For details direction on how to get there, refer this google map. Very useful feature from Google.

The service is slow, but guess that is quite normal for civil servant.

Chungking Express

I picked up a copy of 'Chungking Express' last week. It's the movie that really hooked me on to Wong Kar Wai's work. I had been entranced when I first watched 'Days Of Being Wild', but after 'Chungking Express', I was hooked. And I've watched every Wong Kar Wai movie since then. Which is quite something because his movies tend to be in Mandarin or Cantonese and I'm a banana who no speakee those languages very well, if at all.

It's hard for me to describe his work. He seems to be making the same movie over and over again - just in different time zones and locations and story lines. But I do know that thanks to Christopher Doyle, his cinematography is amazing. You've got to watch his movies in the cinema to truly appreciate the vistas of colour and impressions that wash across the screen.

And going through his stories and dialogue is like peeling an onion layer after layer. If you understand film, it's fascinating. Art for art's sake. And you get new insights and interpretations whenever you watch the movie again. But if you don't.........

There were eight of us when I first saw 'Chungking Express' in 1994. Two were raving about how good the movie was. The other six were totally confused and had no idea what the story was about.

But the fascination has been there for me ever since.

He Zhiwu, Cop 223: We're all unlucky in love sometimes. When I am, I go jogging. The body loses water when you jog, so you have none left for tears.

Cop663: You like noisy music?
Faye: Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
Cop663: You don't like to think? What do you like?
Faye: Never thought about it.
