Wherever I Lay My Hat
From the first album I ever bought - back when cassette tapes were the main medium of music. I bought Paul Young's 'No Parlez' album primarily for this song. I mean, the rest of the album was pretty good too but this song was killer.
Paul Young's musical career can't hold a candle to what Marvin Gaye produced but I prefer Young's version of this song to Marvin Gaye's original (found here).

the CNY break
Just got back from a week in Bintulu, Sarawak where the boy experienced his first plane flight. Slept through it like a baby, he did.
And even though the routine doesn't change, I'm still not tired of watching the view outside change from tarmac to ground to clouds and sky. I'm not sure if I'll ever get tired of that.
While in Bintulu, Cedric got to make his official debut to the rest of the family and was reintroduced to his maternal grandmother, pictured here below.
He had a ball, being the only baby around, getting entertained and being carried from pillar to post. Feel the Love, boy.

Stand by Your Man
That's what Tammy Wynette sang. Of course, she also sang D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Anyway, that's who's been on the airwaves this week - enough times for me to actually post it up.

Buy little, live free.
I can 100% assure you traditional "Chinese/Asian" mind will be totally disagree with this cartoon and the concept. But it is kind of interesting, new age living style? No, it is just a joke but how true.
This Groban guy has a interesting way of expressing himself. No.. not the big voice one, is the little brother. http://www.chrisgroban.com/blog/
Some really interesting quote from his blog:
When I’m dead and gone, that really super CB2 coffee table is going to be just as meaningless as it is today. But I hope the moments and ideas I shared with friends and family will live on in their collective consciousness and mean so much more.
-------------
The people who let you cut in front of them when you see your friends further up in line. The people who listen, even to those just waiting to talk. The people who make a mistake in your favor and make the conscious choice not to correct it. It’s these people who carry on the human spirit, wrapped in the human condition, like a precious egg carried through time shielded only by its own flaws.
-------------
I envy the goldfish, a creature with no hindsight. I would like to experience a life that nurtures the moment with no care for previous failures or concerns of future challenges.
and my favourite.
It is not the loss that hurts as much as the emptiness that follows.

on Moneyball
If you're interested in not just how Barcelona play pretty football, but also how they ended up with such a dominant team playing this way ...........
If you're interested in not just the fact that Manchester City have such a strong squad, but also how they went about constructing it (and with whose money, I might add) ...............
If you're interested to know why Liverpool spent GBP35 million on a striker who can't seem to score anymore ..........
If you're interested to know how the world of team sports is being changed by the use of advanced statistics, then Moneyball is for you :

Christmas Haul for the Girl
Of those that turn up in conversation :
Lilo and Stitch, her latest craze.
One Plant vs Zombie toy, which she sticks to her cheek and asks "why is the shooter stuck on my face ?"
The brown dog and red dog which she 'borrowed' from her brother - even though she never plays with them.
Little Gray and Little White, the two cats.
The family of rats would be there too - or at least, Shiny White, the small white one - but she told me that it would freak her mom out.
And with all that, who's she got in her arms ? Baby - still the greatest gift of all her toys.
Sports Direct.com
Meanwhile, in a secluded spot in Subang Jaya, unbeknownst to most of the buying public around the locality, Mike Ashley - Newcastle United's reclusive, reviled owner - has set up shop.
Hardly any publicity - marketing and promotion cost low !
Open daily 11am to 8 pm - 1 shift only !
There's a crowd, but nobody's beating down the doors. Pretty low profile.
4 months now ....
Things are different with this second child.
Where it use to be one kiss, now it has to be two because #1 asks "where's my kiss?"
We can take different styles of portrait shots that we just never thought of for #1. And all the good ones for #1 can be recreated for #2.
And all the time that used to be showered on #1 is now split between two children. You may be able to multiply love, but you can't multiply time.
I took this photo because it reminded me
of two mice peeking out from their hole
Cedric's now trying to turn but he hasn't figured out how to do it yet
I didn't have to use vivid settings for this photo
but it was already so colourful that everything just popped

Sidney Bechet
One of the things I like most about movies is how they often expose me to musicians I've never heard before.
I'm not talking about action movies from the likes of Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel, et al. It's the more whimsical movies, the romantic comedies, the period movies (O Brother Where Art Thou ?), the coming-of-age movies. The ones where the soundtrack is so prominent, it's practically a co-star.
The latest entry ? Sidney Bechet, a contemporary of Louis Armstrong. Featured in Midnight in Paris, this song makes me want to do two things. Either slow dance with a loved one, or walk hand in hand beside water - river or sea - it doesn't matter.
It makes me want to do the things that really matter.

Midnight in Paris
Have just greeted 2012 with a walk down memory lane by watching Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.
Having watched the movie, I guess you could call it Woody Allen's love letter to Paris - 'cos that's what it felt like. Paris was everywhere in this movie, not just as a location or a backdrop. And Woody Allen makes this very obvious from the beginning when the first 3-and-a-half minutes of the movie features shots of Paris - without a single actor on screen.
It was lovely.
And a thrill as we recognised the various locations used in the movie - Montmartre, Moulin Rouge, Notre Dame, the stairs of the Rue Foyatier, Pigalle and along the banks of the River Seine .....
... a shot of this bridge. This exact spot was chosen from the few-kilometers long walkway beside the River Seine. And this photo, just like the scene in the movie, doesn't show the top of the bridge.
I guess, sometimes a movie isn't just a movie.
