Mr Obama swore his oath of allegiance on the same bible used by Abraham Lincoln at his inauguration in 1861Yes, it's happened. It's not an exaggeration to say that this is an event that all Americans were looking forward to (some with dread). It's certainly one that many wanted to witness.

And many in the world watched as well - not so much that they liked Obama per se, but more because it was a historic moment full of symbolism. A high point in the civil rights movement in America, and a highlight in the struggle against racism everywhere.
