the Caruso of Rock

The past week or so has seen me digging out the archives for my Roy Orbinson CD. What a voice he had ! It was totally extraordinary.

Curiously, my favourite Roy Orbinson song is not one of his most famous hits. Instead, it is a reworked version of "In Dreams" which was used by David Lynch in his movie "Blue Velvet".

There's this other guy, J.D. Souther, who tried to emulate Roy Orbinson's sound. Judging by his biggest hit "You're Only Lonely", he did a pretty good job.

On a side note, J.D. Souther also co-wrote some of the Eagles hits including "Best of My Love" and "New Kid in Town".
